Intern Software Development Engineer
As one of the world's fastest growing booksellers, The Book Depository () exists to offer a large range of titles in the world, available for dispatch within 48 hours. Founded in 2004 to make 'All Books to All' we focus on selling 'less of more' rather than 'more of less', differentiating ourselves from other retailers who increasingly focus on bestsellers. Having forged unique publisher and supplier relationships, we have the ability to dispatch over 14 million titles within 48 hours, with free worldwide delivery, outstanding customer service, a wide choice of payment currencies and free shipping to millions of customers in over 130 countries. In November 2011 The Book Depository was acquired by Amazon. The Book Depository is based in London UK (HQ), Gloucester UK (Fulfilment Centre) and Alexandria, Egypt (Operations).
The Book Depository internship program provides software developers with strong Computer Science fundamentals practical experience building web applications and distributed systems, to help grow our business, delight our customers, and take advantage of Amazon's unique technology platform.
After building several generations of bookdepository.com using LAMP and PHP, we're now also adopting Java and Amazon technologies. The Intern will join our London development team, to grow and improve our existing systems and to deliver exciting new features using Amazon's unique technology platform. Working in our agile development team, this internship role will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, launching new and valuable customer-facing website features.
Working closely with Kindle Content Platform, this internship program will deliver Kindle's Look Inside the Book feature for our Book Depository Customers. The project requires setting up new API integrations with the Kindle platform, mapping our book catalog to Kindle titles, and supporting a seamless, low latency customer experience.
