Science & Technology Analyst : This thriving technology consultancy is looking for an ambitious Science or Engineering PhD graduate (eg Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering etc) with an inquisitive mind, strong commercial acumen and exceptional research skills to join their growing team. This is the perfect role for a gifted Scientist / Engineer interested in the commercial application of cutting edge science in a business environment. The company's scientific and engineering research guides organisations ranging from SME's through to global multinationals on critical business decisions in Science & Technology, Market Intelligence and Product Innovation Strategies. Their research helps their customers to identify, explore and assess new opportunities -and pre-empt market threats. They will then go on to help the client exploit the science & technology or implement strategic business saving/changing decisions. The Analyst will be a key figure in investigating clients' objectives through conducting extensive literature research and interviewing key international business and academic leaders. You will gather and analyse data and from your pool of research draw conclusions which will be well documented and presented to the client. This is fascinating work where your research into innovative -and potentially disruptive, technologies and strategies will change the technology landscape. You will be instrumental in kick-starting development of the next generation of commercial products we will all be using in five, or maybe ten years' time! As the Analyst you will: Gather scientific and market data from secondary sources (published sources), including searching of websites, technical libraries and proprietary databases Conduct primary research (telephone interviews) to gain insights from academics, industry players, and market commentators Analysing data, including the selection and appropriate use of industry-standard analysis tools Generating logical 'draft' conclusions based on the data sourced Drafting reports describing research methods, findings, conclusions, and recommendations, with input from a Consultant as needed Contributing to the delivery of study outputs and proposals to clients and investors. To be considered for the role of Analyst you need the following: Education: A good undergraduate degree (BSc/BEng/MEng/MSci/MChem/MPhys etc) and ideally (though not essentially) a Doctorate (DPhil, EngD, PhD) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Biology or Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc Skills Essential An interest in the commercialisation and application of science in a business environment is essential. Experience in the use of secondary information tools, including online searching of scientific literature or patents information would be an advantage Excellent lateral thinking skills Strong communication, time management, and planning skills Candidates should be familiar with standard computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Desirable Previous commercial experience would be a distinct advantage The company sources data and insights from around the world, and therefore fluency in a foreign language, while not essential, would be an advantage, especially in one of the following: Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, German or French Science & Technology Analyst Location - Cambridgeshire Salary - circa £30K Benefits -Excellent salary package, ongoing training and superb long term career development.
